Week 5 - Gordon B. Hinckley

I am so thankful for President Hinckley and all the service he has rendered in the service of our Lord. I am especially grateful for his influence and legacy left as President of the church. He has been President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since 1995 just a few short years after my baptism. He has served as a father figure for me and someone that I strive to emulate. I appreciated his humor and loved and delighted in everything he said. He passed away last Sunday evening in peace and his wonderful funeral cermony was held yesterday. This is an emotional loss for me but I am happy for his reunion with his beloved wife, Marjorie. I am excited for the upcoming changes. I leave with this testimony from President Hinckley;
“Our Eternal Father lives. He stands as the great God of the universe, ruling in majesty and power. And yet He is my Father, to whom I may go in prayer with the assurance that He will hear, listen, and answer.”
“Jesus is the Christ, His immortal Son, who under His Father's direction was the Creator of the earth. He was the great Jehovah of the Old Testament, who condescended to come into the world as the Messiah, who gave His life on Calvary's cross in His wondrous Atonement because He loved us. The work in which we are engaged is their work, and we are their servants, who are answerable to them.”
(“ Testimony,” Ensign, May 1998, 71. )
