We spent our Labor Day kayaking down the Salt River. We try to do this on the few Saturdays during the year that we have available. We couldn't make it on Saturday so thought we would try Monday. Surprisingly, it wasn't too busy. We start away from and before the tubers -bad scene, definitely PG-13 and unfortunately accasionally R (sorry kids...oops)!
Anyway, we had a great trip. Buying the water guns for our little ones made it the best. The big kids use their paddles to splash. The water guns allowed for a more even fight.
"Hey guys, let's try not to have so much fun so this will last longer!" so said my JT. Everyone had one of the best times and the 3 1/2 hours on the river felt like 30 minutes. We could have gone longer by starting up higher on the river but it is usually best to leave with them wanting more.
Highlight (besides the water guns) was first Ashley flipping her kayak. Her and JT were in front of the rest of us by a good distance and turned a corner and hit a rapid. JT was in the green, more stable sit on top kayak, and Ashley in the red one. JT was able to avoid the "double whirpool" whereas I guess Ash hit it dead on and flipped. Highlight and funny now once we find out that she was okay. No lost paddle or boat. She had a life jacket (as we all did)on and swam to JT's boat while the rest of us caught up. I thought I could help but DUH! I get myself stuck on the rock. Chris, Jack and I rocked and pushed ourselves off while Jon helped sweet Ash back into her kayak only having lost 1 flip flop.
Second and final highlight was Chris, Jack and I getting stuck (yes...again) in the shallow part of the river and Chris pulling us out. I know that was totally lazy of my but I LOVED watching him pull and be "the man"....GO CHRIS! In my defense we all got stuck not realizing ahead of time how shallow it would be.
Jon and I were both impressed on how hard they worked loading and unloading and helping and being there for each other. They were even motivating us to go! YEAH KIDS! YOu ROck!

That looks like a lot of fun. 8 years here and we have never done that. (tubes or kayaks or anything) John and I started compiling a list of AZ "things to do" as we are hoping to be moving to Europe by next summer. Looks like I need to add that to the list. (would you take a two year old down the river?)
Totally take a 2 year old! Jack has been going since 18months. He usually would fall asleep.
That brought back memories! Scott and I floated it on tubes when we were dating, we were probably the PG-13 type you were speaking of, though.
Sounds like a great family outing! I love the kind that make them work together!
Wow! Fun!!! Wish I could see more pictures. Probably not the most ideal place for a camera though, huh?
We used to go tube the Salt with friends, family and my ward y.w., y.m. group. I haven't been in years! i should take my kids. It sounds like you had a blast.
